Brian H. Johnston, Ph.D., President and CEO, is also Consulting Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine. He founded SomaGenics while leading the Nucleic Acids Program at SRI International and has been SomaGenics' full-time CEO since 1997. He received his Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and did post-doctoral research at UCSF and MIT before moving to SRI. He is a co-inventor of the Molecular Lassos.
Sergei A. Kazakov, Ph.D., Vice President for Discovery Research, an internationally recognized expert in RNA and DNA chemistry, did post-doctoral research with Nobel Laureate Sidney Altman at Yale following a successful early career in Russia.

Andrew C. Barnes, MBA, Currently President & CEO of Avant Medical Corporation, an early stage medical device company which has developed a proprietary needle-free injector for delivering drugs subcutaneously. Prior to joining Avant, he was President & CEO of Myelos Corp., a biopharmaceutical company developing peptide-based drugs for neurological disorders. Earlier he was a founder and senior executive at Mycogen Corp., an agricultural biotechnology company, from its inception through acquisition by The Dow Chemical Company at a value of $1.1 billion, and before that was president of Zymogenetics Corp.

Patricia P. Jones, Ph.D., Vice-provost; Professor and former Chair, Department of Biological Sciences, Stanford University. A pioneer in the MHC (major histocompatibility complex) class II field, her research interests also include autoimmune disorders.
Valentin V. Vlassov, Ph.D., Dr. Sci., Director, Novosibirsk Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry; Chair, Molecular Biology Department, Novosibirsk State University. A member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, he is an internationally known expert in nucleic acid chemistry and structure, and a pioneer in the fields of antisense and artificial ribonucleases.
Harvey J. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, Stanford University School of Medicine; Chief of Staff, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. A prominent clinician and researcher in hematology and oncology, he has studied the cellular biology and biochemistry of granulocyte function especially as they relate to the oxidative killing ability of phagocytic cells.
